Face to face with ‘Junk gender diversity’

Are you interested in gender diversity topics? In the last decade that has become, increasingly, a non-negotiable mandate for international corporates.

Almost all are currently carrying a full diversity and inclusion program! Especially, gender diversity.

Some of those corporates are really successful in achieving the “numbers” but only a few among those I came across are successful in achieving the essence of it, i.e. attaining targets whilst keeping the women living as women should live.

    Here’s the paradox:

Gender diversity and inclusion programs are meant to provide women with a healthy and “fair” environment where they can succeed, grow and prosper. Most of the successful corporates were able to apply that concept except for the “fair” rule, they apply a “same” rule instead and assume that “Same” is equal to “Fair”.

In my opinion, when it comes to gender diversity at workplace, Fair and Same can never substitute each other, actually “Same” is usually “Unfair”.

The big mistake (or Sin if you like), that corporate leaders commit is, directly and indirectly, pushing women to lose more of who they are and gain more of what men are in order to stay entitled for the “same” opportunities that pop up wearing a full makeup of “fairness”.

let’s make the point clearer and more straightforward; except in the few wise cultures, in order for a woman to have the same opportunities of success in a big corporate, she should work same hours like a man, manage the same stuff, handle the same stress, stay for the same over time, work at home, enter the same battles, show the same level of alignment with the same set of values, travel/commute for the same time!

It wouldn’t take you so long looking at that picture, objectively, to be able to tell it’s exceptionally insane.

It doesn’t only miss all sense but it also makes those corporates lose the whole point (and benefits) of having more women.

Why do I think that is a total-loss case?

Let’s step back and recall the beginning.

The essence of creating a balance between different genders, in the first place, was gaining energy balance (Masculine-Feminine energy balance) that reflects on culture, workplace psychology, decision making, go-to-market plans, and the customer experience in order to serve the diversified community better, isn’t it?

What’s practically happening most of the time is that corporates hire and grow more women with authentic/highly needed female energy, throw them in an aggressive sameness machine, and the rest is history. A culture of sameness encourages what I call “virtual gender conversion”, as a shortcut for women to adapt and live safely.

What should we fix?  (I’m delighted you asked)

Only for leaders who are seriously and genuinely interested in healthy gender diversity rather than junk, be aware that a female (especially a mom) who joins or steps up to add all that precious value, comes also with big responsibilities at home. Stuff that doesn’t allow her to work in the same circumstances that feel ok for men! In order to do something about it, flexibility in leadership and a whole new setup and mindset are needed.

    And the advice is

Give them a FAIR chance not the SAME chance. Ask them what to do, allow them to live a full woman’s life, to focus on their big role at home, to take good care of themselves.

Permit your female employees to freely display they’re (supposedly high level) of female energy in care, love, vulnerability, connection, then let them succeed and grow, not (despite) but, (because of) all the differences they bring to work and life.

Then, and only then, you can announce your successful achievement of gender diversity goals.

  • 4 Athletic ‘Secrets-of-mastery’ Brought to Workplace

4 Athletic ‘Secrets-of-mastery’ Brought to Workplace

It is a perfect world.. Isn’t it? God has created everything in a symphonic interdependent harmony. Every atom and cell is put in the exact place it should be in.. and moving in the best direction that serves the bigger picture. Due to the bonds created in that miraculous harmony, we’re surrounded with abundance of knowledge and wisdom where we can inhale from, reflect on, examine in several contexts then reuse in different situations..

Having said that.. Let’s live that joyful experience by borrowing 4 big secrets from athletic world and explore how they perfectly fit into workplace.

1- Boxing coaches advise: winning doesn’t only depend on how strong you hit, but mainly on how flexible, ready and fast you are to avoid hits

If you examine that law in business life you’ll will find endless examples of people around who were able to win and continue winning (during their most vulnerable time) because of their flexibility, adaptation and speed of change! That, surprisingly, happen at the same time and place that witnesses the big failures of the strongest and toughest players.. History books prove how flexibility and adaptability dominate.

2- Chess masters suggest: your IQ might be your wildest enemy if it is attached to a fixed mindset

As it sounds, the fixed mindset is the belief that your abilities are mature and rigid.. This belief is harmful even when you believe you’re the smartest, prettiest, strongest … Etc). A fixed mindset might eat your success for breakfast. The growth mindset, on the other hand, is about believing your skills and abilities can grow and change from any starting point. A consequent conviction for growth is that your talents, gifts and IQ level won’t take you too far.. We critically need our growth, practice, discipline and efforts.

Like in chess, In business life, the growth mindset holder is equipped to win at the end, even when he/she starts from a quite normal launching position.

3- Martial arts masters teach their students to hit THROUGH the target not AT it

Try this game in business, set big and crazy targets.. Encourage and inspire people and teams to achieve them and create a safe space that empowers them to try, fail and retry.. Allow your teams to make the effort without being threatened.. Now stay alert and watch the show, even if you didn’t achieve the extreme target you set, you’d be at least achieving a score that you wouldn’t even dream of in a normal objective-setting process! As a result you would hit through mediocre targets and pass onwards to olympic scores!

4- Football coaches bet all what they’ve got on the three greatest players; Team-Spirit, Team-Plan, And Team-Work. They know well that even a supernatural skill-set of an individual player might entirely evaporate, or even weakens the team, if not employed perfectly to serve those three greatest players..

I don’t think we need further explanation to that one check its suitability for workplace.. In my experience, it fits like a glove

Are you ready for the lessons to-go?

    – Stay fit, flexible and ready for change and reshape.. Don’t allow your strength and toughness to play against you!

    – Keep practicing, working and learning and above all STAY HUMBLE

    – Dreaming big isn’t enough.. If you want to add big value to life go dream bigger than everyone you know!

    – A whisper to those men and women in leadership positions and who look for non-toxic long-term success: “your master strategy should put the team spirit, purpose and behavior above all individual benefits.. Remember: A leadership position won’t make you a LEADER unless you earn it from your followers.

  • The 5 magic questions to regain ‘Choice’

The 5 magic questions to regain ‘Choice’

Even the tiniest change in the direction of a sailing ship shall take it to a totally different destination.

Same rule applies to any small change in human perspectives too! Gaining a new perspective changes the meaning we give for what we look at and, consequently, the decisions we make about our journey plans.

One of the primary functions of life-coaching is removing the barriers to new perspectives and giving a “new-look” to the same building blocks of the same life.

People who try coaching usually enjoy that as one of the most entertaining and mind-altering parts of the process. There is a reason for that positive feeling attached to new perspectives and it is that; changing our viewpoint towards a specific challenge or aim refreshes and illumines our lives in many different ways. Some of those are:

It surprises us by seeing hidden corners and disguised opportunities in a life that we used to think we already know every inch of

It frees our brains from the stickiness of routine and the dullness of linear thinking-style, the matter that creates senses of relief & amusement and ignites the creativity needed to overcome challenges

With enough practice, it creates useful skill and habit of studying alternative routes and relevant traffic conditions before moving between any two points (as if we use the newest version of google maps app to plan for life routes), and accordingly enables us to make better decisions about our journeys

    One-day Hunting Game

One of the simple ways to trigger that process is deciding to play a “one-day-hunting-game”, where we start our day by asking ourselves a different set of questions than those we usually ask then let the flowing answers guide our steps. If you’d like to start practicing that mind-sport, let me recommend an initial powerful challenge to start with (then you can apply the same process on other ones you want). My suggested challenge for our first round is hunting and incubating the perspective of CHOICE for one day… needless to mention, it only counts when you hunt it alive :)).

Some of the questions that might help you attract the perspective of “CHOICE” to your nets are:

1- If I have full CHOICE today and no limitations are there, what will I choose to do with my life?

2- If I travelled to a new place where I know no one and no one knows me! What life style will I choose to lead?

3- What is the area of my life that I think I have a choice to rearrange/reshape today?

4- What are the actions that I can choose to stop, start or change today?

5- In a specific situation or event I’m facing now, besides the first meaning I give to it, what other meanings that event might have?.. If I faced it 10 years ago, how would I see it?.. If I look at it after 10 years from now, how will I find it?

Make sure you play using a pencil and a paper to write, or even draw, your answers.. that is a game rule!

Psychology research suggests that the amount of happiness and mental-health we enjoy is directly proportionate to the amount of control we have on our lives! Practicing life from the perspective of CHOICE rearranges the uncontrollable/loose parts of our mindset and gives our subconscious an underlying meaning of control that eventually provides more peace, clarity and wellnessdo they sound pretty?

Put your boots on we’re going for hunting today. Have a pleasant journey!
